Gallery Intern – 3‑6 months or more

CARWAN GALLERY is seeking a motivated Gallery Intern to support the Hong Kong launch and the day‑to‑day activities of the gallery. This role is designed for someone eager to gain hands‑on experience in a dynamic contemporary collectible design gallery, working closely with the Gallery Manager and Director during an exciting period of relocation and opening.

Role & Mission

The Gallery Intern will support the team across a variety of operational, administrative and communication tasks related to the opening and ongoing activities of the gallery. The position combines:

• administrative support
• sales assistance
• database and archive upkeep
• exhibition and event support
• communication and research assistance

The role requires a positive attitude, attention to detail, discretion, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑moving environment.

General Tasks

• Assisting with daily gallery operations and general office support.
• Helping manage the gallery calendar, appointments, and internal schedules.
• Supporting the preparation of exhibitions, openings, and events.
• Assisting with client and partner communication when needed.
• Helping organize and update databases, archives, and shared files.
• Supporting the creation and formatting of presentations, documents, and sales materials.
• Assisting with inventory tracking, edition registers, and documentation.
• Helping prepare shipping, delivery, and logistics paperwork.
• Supporting website updates and online listings when needed.
• Assisting with social media, press monitoring, and image selection.
• Conducting basic research on artists, designers, collectors, and market references.
• Helping maintain the gallery’s visual and document standards.
• Supporting the team with any additional tasks related to the Hong Kong opening.

Profile

• Interest in contemporary art, collectible design, or galleries.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proactive, dependable, and willing to learn.
• Good communication skills.
• Comfortable using basic IT tools, spreadsheets, and shared drives.
• Fluent in English; Cantonese and/or Mandarin is mandatory.
• Available to work in Hong Kong on a full‑time or part‑time basis depending on arrangement.
• Fine Art or related undergraduate degree preferred.
• Previous experience at an art gallery, museum or auction house preferred.
• Knowledge of InDesign, Adobe, Excel, Dropbox strongly preferred.

Terms

• Compensation to be discussed depending on experience and availability.
• Duration and schedule to be agreed.
• Based in Hong Kong, with presence required in the gallery.
• Opportunity to gain direct experience in gallery operations, exhibitions, sales support, and client relations.
• Valid HKID or HKSAR employment visa essential.
