We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Head of Structured Trade Finance, Hong Kong.

We are looking for a senior Head of Structured Trade Finance, Hong Kong covering the full spectrum of clients, SMEs, Mid Market and Large Corporates headquartered in Hong Kong and China mainland. This is a significant leadership opportunity in the Hong Kong Global Trade Solutions team managing 25+ colleagues highly specialized in structuring complex structured trade transactions for clients, designing and launching new scalable client propositions.

a. Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Leadership & Market Development: Lead the origination, structuring, and execution of highly complex, multi-jurisdictional GTS solutions for top-tier clients across Asia, with a focus on leveraging HSBC’s global network and deepening corridor flows between Greater China, ASEAN, and global markets. Drive the development and implementation of regional and cross-border strategies that align with CIB, HK Pillar and Group priorities, ensuring HSBC remains the trade finance partner of choice for multinational and large local corporates.

• Proposition Development: In addition to coverage of Large Corporate clients where structuring of complex trade solutions is key, this role also covers the SME and Mid Market segments, for which the ability to develop new structured trade propositions that can be scaled across a broad set of customers is key. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate ability to design and scale structured trade propositions across a broad range of customers, including deep understanding of technological aspects of developing digitally delivered structured trade solutions to SMEs and Mid Market customers.

• Expert Advisory & Solution Innovation: Act as the senior subject matter expert, providing authoritative guidance on structured trade and complex lending solutions. Collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders to co-create bespoke, innovative structures that address evolving client needs, regulatory requirements, and market opportunities, particularly in high-growth and strategically important sectors.

• Client Relationship Management & Revenue Growth: Sponsor and deepen relationships with C-suite and senior decision-makers at key clients, identifying and converting opportunities for wallet share expansion. Champion cross-sell initiatives across Corporate Finance, Structured Finance, and GTS, ensuring seamless delivery of integrated solutions and superior client experience.

• Thought Leadership & Industry Influence: Represent HSBC as a thought leader in structured trade finance forums, both regionally and globally. Drive the creation and dissemination of market insights, case studies, and best practices, positioning HSBC at the forefront of industry innovation and regulatory change.

• Team Development & Talent Management: Mentor and develop high-performing, diverse teams in Hong Kong, fostering a culture of excellence, inclusion, and continuous learning. Lead by example in upholding HSBC’s values and promoting collaboration.

• Risk Management & Governance: Ensure rigorous adherence to internal controls, risk management, and compliance standards across all activities. Proactively identify and mitigate operational, credit, and reputational risks, maintaining the highest standards of conduct and regulatory compliance in all jurisdictions.

b. Knowledge, Experience, Qualifications, Skills Needed

• Domain Expertise:
• Extensive experience in Corporate Finance, Structured Finance, Structured Trade, Project Finance, Export Finance, or as a Senior Coverage Banker with a proven track record in complex lending and deal structuring for large corporates and multinationals.
• Deep understanding of trade finance products, cross-border structuring, and the regulatory landscape in Asia, with a strong grasp of macroeconomic and sectoral trends.

• Leadership & Influence:
• Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire large teams at a director level, with a track record of developing talent and driving high performance.
• Strong influencing and stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging at C-suite levels.

• Strategic & Commercial Acumen:
• Proven ability to develop and execute business strategies that deliver sustainable revenue growth, market share gains, and superior client outcomes.
• Commercially astute, with a strong focus on client-centricity, innovation, and operational excellence.

• Technical & Analytical Skills:
• Advanced financial structuring, credit analysis, and risk management capabilities, with the ability to design and deliver complex, bespoke solutions.
• Strong appreciation for the application of technology and digital solutions in trade and transaction banking.

• Communication & Language:
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to diverse audiences.
• Proficiency in Mandarin (spoken and written) is a significant advantage, given the regional focus and client base. Not Mandatory.

• Qualifications:
• Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field; additional professional qualifications (e.g., CFA, MBA) are highly desirable.
